A new feature of onefinestay’s award winning website, the guides comprise local recommendations from host members, editorial content and photography -- a collection of rich information to help visitors make more informed decisions about where to stay and what to do while they’re in town.
The local recommendations on the site are a tiny fraction of onefinestay’s total collection of more than 19,000 personal tips and reviews provided by homeowners who have joined the service. The area guides give a tantalising glimpse of this insider knowledge publically for the first time, revealing some of the unique content previously available only to guests during their stay. The full range of local tips is available through onefinestay’s iPhone app for guests.
The local area guides also include an introduction to the area, its best-known features, an image gallery showcasing the environs, and homes available in the vicinity. This content has been curated by onefinestay’s editor Alex Bagner, who joined the team in September 2012 from Wallpaper*, where she was a senior editor, to create onefinestay’s print publication, Guestbook, and oversee the company’s editorial output.
The introduction of the area guides comes shortly after the launch of a new iPhone app featuring the full collection of members’ local advice, as onefinestay pursues its mission to give guests the ability to live like a local, supported by rich material for exploring the city. The guides are also part of onefinestay’s efforts to educate visitors about lesser-known areas – like Brooklyn and Shoreditch – unlocking new neighbourhoods and in so-doing fostering unique, authentic travel experiences.
Alex Bagner said, “There are many areas that people unfamiliar with a city might never have heard of, let alone consider as a destination for their holiday. We hope that our local area guides will kindle their curiosity to explore those parts of cities that lie slightly off the beaten track.”
Launching initially with 71 local area guides across London and New York, the project will be extended to cover all areas in which onefinestay lists homes in both cities, and rolled out as the company continues to expand internationally.
