JacTravel Points Latin Americans to Value Destinations in USA

  • Published by Ozgur Tore

Ahead of the WTM Latin America trade show, the travel wholesaler JacTravel has undertaken an analysis of accommodation rates in the most important outbound market, the USA.

disneyland-anaheimIt reveals that Orlando and New Orleans, cities for which tourism is a highly important activity, offer exceptional value, particularly in the three and four star categories.

In Orlando, which is the home of several of the world’s most famous theme parks, including Disney, Universal and Sea World, JacTravel’s Benchmark wholesale rates for a 3* hotel room are as low as $36 per room per night (/r/n) and a 4* room can be found for less than $100/r/n.

In New Orleans, which is known for its festivals, jazz clubs and rich cultural history, Benchmark wholesale rates for a 3* hotel room are $86/r/n and a 4* room can be found for $106/r/n.

JacTravel’s Benchmark rates are set by a team of experienced hotel buyers each of whom specialises in contracting hotel accommodation in a given city, typically inspecting and negotiating with hundreds of hotels a year. In North America, the Benchmark rate is the wholesale rate for a standard double room, excluding breakfast, in a good value, well located, hotel typical of the category.

Analysis of Benchmark rates in North America’s other major great cities show that there has been an uplift in rates of anything up to 12% from 2013 to 2014, depending on local factors, though a 5% annual increase is much more typical. The highest rise is in San Francisco, which has a relative shortage of hotel accommodation. As a consequence, the Benchmark rate for a 5* room there is nearly $450/r/n.

Mario Bodini, President & Chief Commercial Officer, JacTravel, said: “Whilst New York is the most visited city in the USA, the country has an extraordinary wealth of other wonderful cities to visit, virtually all representing superior value for money, as far as accommodation is concerned. I am a particular fan of Washington because it is the centre of so much American history and full of spectacular buildings which are free to enter. Another city which is often overlooked by tourists is Boston, which is cultured and elegant and excellent for tax-free shopping.”
