Iberia strike began on Monday

Workers at the Spanish airline Iberia today have begun a five-day strike in protest at planned cuts to jobs and salaries.

iberia-airlinesThe action started with 236 cancellations on the first day (Monday February 18), the beginning of half-term for many in Britain, with further stoppages planned over three weeks in protest at the company’s plans to cut 3,800 jobs.

The action could cause an estimated 1,200 flight cancellations and inconvenience for around 70,000 passengers.

In the first nine month of 2012 it lost 262m euros

It said 90% of long-haul flights would be operating, but domestic flights would be the worst affected, with more than half of flights grounded.
