Turkmenistan Airlines (TA) launched two routes this week. TA’s first flight to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) landed on February 12 and one day later on Friday, February 13, Riga International Airport welcomed the first flight of Turkmenistan Airlines from Ashgabat.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) Managing Director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said TA's presence would further promote KLIA's status as the preferred hub in the region. TA is the 64th international carrier to serve at KLIA and it would operate one flight weekly from Ashgabat to Kuala Lumpur and vice-versa route every Thursday.
“The new route enables the airports of Riga (Latvia) and Ashgabat to access new passenger transport markets, which is an essential condition for the passenger growth. This is also a new offer for transit passengers who will save time and money continuing their trip further – to Asian countries and China. On the other hand, the passengers coming to Riga will have access to the vast route network across Western Europe and Scandinavia,” said Andris Liepins, chairman of the board of SJSC Riga International Airport.
Turkmenistan Airlines will perform flights on the route Ashgabat-Riga-Ashgabat once a week – on Fridays – on Boeing 737-700 aircraft. The time of arrival in Riga is scheduled for 5:55 (local time) and departure from Riga – for 7:55.
