Orlando International Airport passenger numbers surge 6.6% in May

Orlando International Airport recorded robust growth in passenger numbers in 2015. In May 2015, Orlando International Airport (MCO) had more than 3.2 million passengers which is a 6.6 percent increase over the previous year. The robust growth can be directly attributed to the airlines adding more seats to Orlando International and travelers are filling those seats.

For the month the airlines added 9.2% more capacity to the area. Leading the way were Frontier, Southwest, United, Spirit and Delta airlines adding more than 105 thousand seats combined.

Highlighting the international growth, this past weekend there were 76 international flight arrivals bringing in over 15,300 travelers to Central Florida.

May 2015 Traffic Statistics:

  • International traffic continued to show hefty double-digit gains with a 13.77 percent increase in May with 403,995 international travelers
  • Domestic traffic benefited from increased seat capacity by the airlines, up 5.67 percent for the month with 2,862,094 passengers at Orlando International in May
  • Overall total traffic climbed 6.60 percent with 3,266,089 travelers during the month
  • Aircraft operations at Orlando Executive Airport also increased by double digits in May climbing 14.55 percent

Orlando International Airport (MCO), serves nearly 36 million annual passengers, of which 12.5 percent are international. MCO is the second busiest airport in Florida and has approximately 18,000 badged employees and generates $31 billion in direct and indirect revenue for the regional economy. In its ongoing efforts to value and delight its customers, Orlando International Airport has embarked on a series of Capital Improvements valued at over $1.3 billion and has approved designing a new South Terminal project all aimed at enhancing The Orlando Experience.
