At least 5 people dead and 8 wounded after a shooting Friday at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office.
The gunman is in custody and was a lone shooter, Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief said to local media.
A former White House press secretary, Ari Fleischer, has been tweeting from the airport. His initial tweet at about 1 p.m. indicated that shots had been fired and people were running. About 10 minutes later a second tweet indicated that the situation has calmed down and there was a heavy police presence.
