Phuket’s hotel and tourism businesses in Q1 of 2014

Business for Phuket’s tourist industry remains robust with passenger arrivals to the island having surged 26 per cent and hotel occupancy rates reaching more than 80 per cent in the first quarter of this year, according to two surveys by property consulting firms CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) and C9 Hotelworks.

phuket patong beachThe CBRE survey for the first quarter of this year found that the number of international arrivals in Phuket increased by 6.9 per cent to 962,953 visitors. The research attributed the increase in direct international flights to Phuket as contributing to the rise in visitors.

Meanwhile, the March 2014 survey carried out by C9 Hotelworks found that Phuket International Airport had recorded a consistent increase in passenger numbers of around 10 per cent per year between 2004 and 2013. In 2013, the Airport recorded 3.2 million international arrivals, representing a 26 per cent year-on-year growth.
