ATA Names Christine Burgeson

  • Published by Vedat

The Air Transport Association of America, Inc. (ATA), the industry trade organization for the leading U.S. airlines, named Christine Burgeson, a former senior lobbyist for President George W. Bush and Citigroup, as Senior Vice President, Global Government Affairs. She begins at ATA on Sept. 7.

Burgeson will be a key member of the association’s leadership team. “ATA is building a world-class government affairs and policy team and Christine is a critical addition; she is a first-rate strategist and a proven leader. She is well-known and well-liked by members of both parties,” said ATA President and CEO Nicholas E. Calio. “Airlines drive the global economy and create 11 million jobs, and we can do more, given efficient infrastructure and an effective tax and regulatory environment. That is why ATA is leading the call for a National Airline Policy that would enable commercial aviation to spur even more growth and jobs for our country.”

Burgeson has worked at the highest levels of both government and the private sector. Most recently, she headed her own consulting firm in Washington, CMB Insights LLC. Prior to that, she spent seven years at Citigroup, where she was Managing Director of Federal Government Affairs in the Citi Global Government Affairs office.

Before joining Citigroup, Burgeson served President George W. Bush as Special Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs. She focused on budget, appropriations, tax, finance and foreign relations issues. She joined the legislative affairs office after two years as the Senate Deputy Associate Director for the Office of Management and Budget. She began her career in Washington in 1995 on the staff of then-Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.).

“I am thrilled to be joining ATA at such a pivotal and dynamic time for the U.S. airline industry and the nation’s economy,” Burgeson said. “ATA’s legislative and regulatory efforts are at the root of what can lead to growth and job creation, and I look forward to working with the great ATA team.”

Burgeson holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and business from the University of Mississippi.
