ITB Berlin presents its latest programme of webinars and workshops – the ITB Academy examines topics such as EU funding, social media and LGBT tourism

As the world’s largest travel trade show ITB Berlin has become recognised as the industry’s biggest think tank.

The ITB Academy features a wide-ranging programme that provides industry representatives with opportunities to further their expert knowledge, not only in March at the event itself, but throughout the entire year. ITB Berlin has released details of its latest programme of webinars of workshops due to take place over the coming months.

On 10 October 2013 at 3 p.m., as part of their online seminar held in English, Daniel Noll and Audrey Scott of Uncornered Market will talk about the storytelling role of social media and about their activities working together with bloggers.

Michael Kraak and Pierre-Etienne Métais of emcra will be discussing the possibilities for obtaining EU funding. On 17 October at 2 p.m., at a webinar held in English, they will provide an insight into EU funding mechanisms and the relevant fulfilment requirements.

Another webinar will be debating how to make optimum use of social media in the context of this trade show. Exhibitors can find out about the communication methods they can employ to optimise their participation in ITB Berlin before, during and after the show. Kristine Honig-Bock, who specialises in marketing tourism via social networking sites, will hold this online seminar on 26 November at 2 p.m.

On 11 December at 10 p.m. Rolf Freitag, founder and president of IPK International and organiser of the annual World Travel Monitor Forum in Pisa, will summarise last year’s global travel trends and provide an outlook for 2014. In the past Rolf Freitag has conducted around 1,000 tourism-related surveys and is recognised as a leading expert in his field.

From 23 to 25 October 2013 the latest annual edition of ITB Asia will be held in Singapore, with numerous workshops also taking place. Participants can find out about German-speaking source markets and the growing importance of LGBT tourism. Taking place on 25 October, the ITB Berlin Business Breakfast carries the provocative title of “The end of tourism business as usual“ and will examine the latest challenges facing the industry.

The ITB Academy will also be holding a workshop at the annual conference of the German Travel Association (DRV) in Salzburg. On 16 November, at this event, Nicole Kobjoll of Schindlerhof in Nuremberg will lecture on how workers can impress customers with their commitment and enthusiasm.

“As the world’s leading travel trade show it is essential for us to keep the industry’s representatives abreast of current trends at all times, not only during the event itself“, said David Ruetz, head of ITB Berlin. “As a result, we are all the more delighted to be offering such a fascinating and outstanding programme of events at the end of 2013.“
