Medical tourism in Turkey is seen as one of the most important sectors of growth for the future. The country’s growth as a medical tourism destination continues. The overall number of medical tourists visiting Turkey has quadrupled between 2008 and 2012 and reached over 290,000 in 2013. Already a well-established medical tourism market, Turkey has benefited from significant investment in its private health sector infrastructure in recent years, providing visiting patients with world-class healthcare at affordable prices.

The number of medical tourists who visited Turkey in the first six months of 2014 totaled 162,445 with revenues reaching $328 million. By 2023, Turkey aims to attract 2 million international patients, bringing $20 billion of medical tourism revenue.

Turkey is becoming the hair transplant center of the medical tourism industry. Hair transplants in Turkey are not only for the head, but for lush facial hair. The men who are getting these procedures done are not only from America but from countries like Italy, Greece, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Facial hair transplants are the most popular amongst Arab patients. "Over the last ten years, all of the male models in fashion magazines have become less feminized and have a ton of facial hair to be more masculine," according to Celik Nuri, a plastic surgeon and the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery's national secretary for Turkey.
