If you like to visit museums when you are traveling, think Seattle. In February, Seattle will celebrate its second annual Seattle Museum Month. From 1st till 29th February, travelers staying at 59 downtown Seattle hotels can access 50 percent discounts at participating museums – and that includes several of the region’s most noteworthy 2016 exhibitions.
The U.S. premiere of Louis Kahn: The Power of Architecture runs throughout February at the Bellevue Arts Museum and is included in the Seattle Museum Month program, as is the first large-scale Hello Kitty museum retrospective in the U.S., which is on display at Seattle’s EMP Museum.
At the center of Seattle Art Museum, Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic opens February 11 and at the Seattle Aquarium, Octopus Week, February 14-22, beckons the whole family. The Wing Luke of the Asian Pacific American Experience is the only museum outside of Hong Kong to present an in-depth Bruce Lee exhibit. Do you Know Bruce? Breaking Barriers enters its second year and digs deeper into the global icon’s impact with the support of Linda and Shannon Lee.
Two internationally renowned glass art museums are included in Seattle Museum Month – Chihuly Garden and Glass in Seattle and the Museum of Glass in Tacoma. LeMay America’s Car Museum in Tacoma and the USS Turner Joy in Bremerton are also included in the program.
Other major museums returning to the program this year include the Museum of History & Industry, Museum of Flight, Woodland Park Zoo, Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture and the Northwest African American Museum. Some new participating museums include the Living Computer Museum, Seattle Pinball Museum and Pacific Bonsai Museum.
A number of participating museums – including some with regularly free admission – will also offer films, lectures, tours and other special programming during Seattle Museum Month.
A complete list of Seattle Museum Month participants can be found at www.seattlemuseummonth.com.
The offers are valid for guests staying at one of 59 participating downtown Seattle hotels.
