ITB-Berlin, which is the first and most important event of March and where the tourism trends for the year is set, took place 11-15 March 2009 on the fairgrounds of Messe Berlin.

ITB World Travel Trends Report revealed that tourism in 2009 will decline 2 percent.

However the decline varies according to regions.  The exchange rates of dollar, euro and sterling at countries will shape the amount of decline. Experts say that Turkey and countries at Asia Pacific region may use the exchange rate as an advantage.

German and European travel lovers will again choose Turkey as their first holiday destination in 2009.

Therefore, authorities state that Turkey will be among the least affected countries in European market in 2009.

Turkey’s second most import market is Russia and CIS countries.

During March, we will follow MITT and Intertour in Moscow and UITT – Kiev fairs. Number of Russian tourists visiting foreign countries increased 15 percent compare to previous year. Like in other countries, Turkish tourism professionals are also curious about the 2009 figure of Russian tourists that will travel.
