Verbier is one of the most exclusive address for luxury ski holidays and a playground for the rich and a place where the famous go to be seen. Verbier draws Hollywood stars, royalty, pop stars, CEOs and of course ordinary people as well. Just last week, Prince Harry and his cousins, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice were spotted skiing in that luxury ski resort of Verbier in Switzerland.
Prince Andrew and his ex-wife Fergie, Princess Mary of Denmark and Prince Frederik of Denmark are also Verbier regulars. The Beckhams ski here. So do Sir Richard Branson, Leonardo Dicaprio, Jude Law, and Jamie Oliver.
So where do they stay? Well mostly they have their own luxury chalets. Verbier has some of the most luxurious chalets in the world, two which are considered the best are Chalet Septieme Ciel and Richard Branson’s mountain retreat, “The Lodge”, both of which can be all yours for a week. Prince Andrew and the Duchess of York recently bought a private chalet in a prime location for £13 million. If you don’t fancy chalet living then they have some great hotels.
The skiing in and around Verbier can be broken up into 4 areas, namely: Verbier, La Tzoumaz / Savoleyres, Bruson and Mt Fort/4 Valleys. All areas are quite distinct one from the other, offering different types of terrain of varied difficulty.
Verbier is also known for après-ski. Après-ski (French: after skiing) refers to any form of entertainment, nightlife or social events that occur specifically at ski resorts. The options are varied but there are a couple of spots in particular that people tend to visit. The places that consistently seem to attract the crowds are the Pub Mont Fort and Le Rouge, both of which boast great locations at the bottom of the slopes along with sun-drenched terraces. The Fer à Cheval is also another favourite.
Following the announcement from the BNS (Swiss National Bank) about abandoning the cap of 1.20 francs to the euro, thousands of tourists and businesses have got together to discuss ideas of how to fight against the strong Swiss Franc.
Verbier tourist office have announced that from the beginning of February, when visitors complete a new booking for a holiday in Verbier, customers will benefit from a reduction of 15% off the apartment and chalet reservations as well as off equipment hire or purchase in selected ski hire shops.
Sports shops and members of the Societé des Commercants et Artisans de Verbier (Association of tradespeople and artisans) also decided to adapt their prices and to offer a 15% reduction on all technical equipment. Sports shops in the Societé des Commercants will also offer local accommodation suppliers 15% off equipment hire for their clients for bookings made from February.
