St. Regis Hotels & Resorts will debut in Venice with The St. Regis Venice San Clemente Palace in April 2015 following the partial completion of an extensive renovation. Occupying a private island in the heart of the Venice lagoon just minutes away by boat from Venice’s renowned St. Mark’s Square, the hotel is set to be the most sought-after luxury retreat in Venice when it re-opens in its full splendor.
Featuring spectacular gardens, luxurious accommodations and lush leisure facilities, The St. Regis Venice San Clemente Palace is located on the six-hectare private island of San Clemente, an oasis just minutes by boat from Venice’s city center. San Clemente has a long history dating back to 1131, when the original church – which has recently been meticulously restored – was built to welcome pilgrims and soldiers setting sail for the Holy Land.
A monastery was constructed on the island in the 17th century and this was converted into a hotel in 2003. With the hotel’s recent conversion to the St. Regis brand, the extensive renovation of the storied building is under way; while guestrooms and suites are reconfigured and refurbished, new specialty suites, as well as refreshed leisure facilities will be added. The restoration of the magnificent historic building is meticulously carried out under the supervision of architects and academics following the rules. The renovation work, which requires detailed permit and approval processes, is expected to be completed in 2016-2017.
Owned by the Turkey-based Permak Group, this unique island started operating under the St. Regis brand in 2014. The extensive 25-million Euro renovation of the hotel is led by the award-winning international designers Hirsch Bedner Associates and GA Design.
Following the renovation, The St. Regis Venice San Clemente Palace will offer 191 luxurious guest rooms with views of the verdant gardens or islands in the lagoon. These will include 48 suites ranging from an intimate junior suite, 2 exquisite designer suites, to a majestic Royal and Presidential Suite. Each room will feature a harmonious blend of contemporary decor with distinct Venetian crafts such as heritage terrazzo floors, handmade Murano chandeliers and brocades.
Adjacent to the hotel and overlooking the main island of Venice, is the consecrated San Clemente Church – which represents an ideal venue for marital blessings and vow renewals. Built in the 12th century, the Church has been restored with artistic works that served as evidence of the island’s glorious history. Dedicated to a Pope who was lost at sea and very dear to the Venetians’ hearts, the original structure was built in the Romanesque style with a single cross nave, but was enlarged and embellished in the late 15th Century with artistic works that can still be enjoyed today.
The St. Regis Venice San Clemente Palace will also be ideal for family getaways and will offer facilities such as a kids’ club, expansive private grounds and lush gardens, as well as a signature spa, an outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court.
Under the guidance of Executive Chef, Roberto Dal Seno, the hotel’s signature Acquerello Restaurant will serve a Mediterranean-inspired menu focused on locally sourced ingredients coupled with seafood and indigenous ingredients from the Adriatic coast. Acquerello offers amazing views of the St. Mark’s Square from the terrace and a fine-dining experience in a sophisticated ambiance. Guests will also enjoy the hotel’s unique take on the Bloody Mary cocktail in the St. Regis Bar, which follows in the tradition of the St. Regis brand’s iconic New York hotel bar. The hotel will also feature a wine cellar with selections from Veneto region and Italy, including international recognized labels, for exceptional wine pairing experiences.
The resort will feature renowned hallmarks of the St. Regis brand including the signature St. Regis Butler Service, providing anticipatory and personalized service, and The St. Regis Family Traditions program.
