McArthurGlen expands its designer outlets in Europe

McArthurGlen, Europe’s leading owner, developer and manager of designer outlets, and TH Real Estate, one of the largest real estate investment managers in the world, opened the Provence Designer Outlet, the first designer outlet in the South of France. The company also announced expansion by adding 5,500m² space at Designer Outlet Parndorf in Austria, and 11,500m2 additional space at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Roermond in the Netherlands.

The Provence Designer Outlet

It is the first designer outlet in the South of France and the Group’s 23rd center in its expanding portfolio. The centre will feature 125 stores including eight cafes and restaurants within a gross lettable area (GLA) of 25,000m². McArthurGlen will open key international luxury and premium brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Coach, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger, and leading French brands such as L'Oréal, Maje, Sandro, The Kooples and Zadig & Voltaire. Over one third of brands opening will be French, including ten brands who are new to the McArthurGlen portfolio.

Designer Outlet Parndorf

Phase V of Designer Outlet Parndorf is taking its gross lettable area (GLA) to 36,500m². The 50 million euros expansion has allowed McArthurGlen and TH Real Estate to add 5,500m² to the centre. The expansion has taken the total number of stores to 160 as well as increasing parking spaces by one-third to 3,000.

The new extension is characterized by a contemporary, innovative design and well-proportioned architecture. It will have a central piazza with a distinctly Italianate feel, which creates a village-like atmosphere.

McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Parndorf is a magnet for visitors and tourists alike, it is one of the largest employers in Burgenland, and the expansion project is increasing the number of people working at the center from 1,500 to 1,800.

The center is home to many of the world’s most sought-after luxury, premium and lifestyle brands, including Furla, Calvin Klein, Escada, Liu Jo, Liebeskind, Diesel, Coach, Armani and Karl Lagerfeld among others. With the official opening of the center’s Phase V extension, 15 new trendy stores will be introduced, which have a distinct focus on sports and lifestyle. New tenants such as Under Armour, Peak Performance, Christ and Rolling Luggage will provide the perfect complement to the existing sports, outdoors and style brands offering at the center. The new arrivals will be joined by more brands including Converse and Pupa Milano as well as new restaurants and cafés over the next few months, taking the total number of new stores to 20.

A cool design hotspot and special highlight – the Ordinary House designed by Brand Unit and fitted out by Interio – was set up to mark the official opening. Open from 11 April to 1 July, this out-of-the-ordinary pop-up store will provide a showcase for Austrian fashion and design, with a particular focus on Austrian designers. Fashion by Brandmair and Petar Petrov, bags by Eva Blut, hats from Mühlbauer, foulards from Consumed by Thomas Zeitlberger and cosmetics from Saint Charles Apotheke are among the selected pieces featured.

The center is already Northern Europe´s biggest and most successful designer outlet and the expansion has increased the center in size by one-third, (adding 11,500m2), taking the center’s total retail space to 46,700 m2.

McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Roermond has also increased the exciting range of designer and luxury brands, by introducing Karl Lagerfeld, Liebeskind Berlin, Peuterey, Sarah Pacini, La Perla Woolrich as well as Brax and Mammut to the brand-mix.

The center expansion has created a stunning shopping experience for its guests from across the European region and is a major attraction for international travelers as well as creating 600 new jobs in the local community.

Located in the Netherland’s Limburg province, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Roermond benefits from one of Europe’s most densely populated catchment areas. Attracting shoppers from both the Netherlands and Germany, it is also popular with tourists and welcomes almost 6 million visitors a year. The 70 million euros project underlines the Group’s carefully considered expansion plan. Since it opened in 2001, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Roermond has developed into one of Europe’s leading designer outlets, featuring approximately 35,000m2 of luxury premium and lifestyle brands. With over 3.200 employees it is the most important employer in Midden-Limburg. In the Phase IV expansion of the center, 600 new jobs were created through McArthurGlen’s brand partners.

The extension of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Roermond marks an important boost on McArthurGlen’s European footprint. With 23 designer outlets in nine countries and 600,000 square meter retail space currently under management the group is the fastest growing designer outlet business in Europe.

McArthurGlen welcomed almost 90 million shoppers in 2016 to its designer outlets and is the fastest growing designer outlet business in Europe, a growth that is or will be supported by the centers in Ochtrup, Rosada and Remscheid.

In 2016, McArthurGlen acquired a majority stake in Designer Outlet Ochtrup in Germany. The centre, which is the only inner city outlet in the most populous state of North Rhine-Westphalia, quickly became one the most successful center’s within the McArthurGlen portfolio.

As part of McArthurGlen’s overall growth strategy that also focuses on greenfield development and organic growth the Group has recently acquired the Rosada Fashion Outlet (the Group’s 24th center). The purchase reinforces the organization’s acquisition strategy, following on from a joint venture with Ochtrup’s founders, in Germany last year.

In the second part of 2019, McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Remscheid which will be the only designer outlet in the local region. Under its current expansion plans, McArthurGlen is in the process of planning and developing further new designer outlets in Europe.
