Last time the event was more international than ever before, introducing 80 countries from all over the world.
Having the straightest flight route from Europe to Asia, Helsinki is a significant gateway to the East. The Nordic Travel Fair Matka has an internationalization strategy for exhibitors, reporters, visitors and bloggers from abroad. The Nordic Bloggers’ Experience is a new forum at Matka bringing dozens of internationally acknowledged professional bloggers to Helsinki. This is done in cooperation with Mr Sebastian Canaves-Börner from Germany, who also has worked for the bloggers’ programme at ITB Berlin.
Next year the Nordic travel Fair Matka is organised 16 – 19 January and it is complimented by the Global Workshop starting already a day before. The Global Workshop on the 15 January offers foreign companies the opportunity to meet buyers from Russia, Finland and other European countries. These short meetings between buyers and suppliers are booked in advance. The Workshop day is completed with seminars and meetings with the bloggers.
In 2014 the theme country is Latvia. Its capital Riga is The European Capital of Culture and in addition to that Latvia offers travelers peace, clean nature, relaxing spas and delicious food. At the Matka fair Latvia will have its own exhibition space and lots of interesting programme.
Nordic Travel Fair Matka in renewed facilities
Next year the Nordic Travel Fair Matka welcomes its visitors to a refurbished Messukeskus, Expo and Convention Centre Helsinki. Key elements in the renovations were to improve the visual aspects and the overall quality of each visit. The most visible and essential changes were made to the restaurants and cafés, which went through a complete makeover.
After the renovations made in summer, Messukeskus now has 21 restaurants and cafés for 4000 customers. The aim is to offer something for everyone from wine tastings to sausages and beer, salads to home cooked meals, specialty coffees to delicious pastries.

The Nordic Travel Fair Matka is the largest travel event in Northern Europe. Last time it was visited by 76,500 people of whom 17,000 were travel trade professionals. The event introduces altogether 80 different countries and Finland in a small scale. The furthest countries represented last time were from the Caribbean and Africa. Approximately one third of the exhibitors come from abroad.
