One of the most significant cultural events in Lithuania, the XX Pazaislis Music Festival starts on 31 May running until 30 August. This year the festival will hold 40 concerts and visitors will have an opportunity to hear the most well-known Lithuanian and foreign musicians, celebrate anniversaries of the composer Mykolas Kleopas Oginskis (250th year), a painter, composer and writer Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis (140th year) and two Lithuanian tenors - Virgilijus Noreika and Edgaras Montvidas.
As with every year, new concert venues are being introduced: Jonava Jonines Valley, Kelme Evangelical Reformed Church and Pasvalys St. John the Baptist's Church.
Five Lithuanian symphony and chamber orchestras, Kaunas State Choir as well as Chicago Choral Choir and Boys and Youth Choir Dagilėlis will appear with choral music programmes; chamber music fans will have an opportunity to enjoy many chamber music concerts and everyone will be invited to see the legendary drama play Herkus Mantas written by Juozas Grušas - all this and more awaits in 20th Pažaislis Music Festival.The festival will also host passionate Spanish flamenco from Sevillia and nostalgic Portuguese fado performed by young singer Mara Pedro; distant northern music traditions will present Khakassian folk ensemble Ülger; baritone Njabulo Madlala will give some African touch; the ensemble Qartvelo will spread the magic of Georgian mountains; Shanghai stories will be told by Swiss duo Duo Losinger Eser playing percussion and unique instrument xala III, which is played while dancing.
