Izmir Foundation for Culture and Arts (IKSEV) will carry on its tradition of ‘’the best orchestras of the world are in Izmir Festival’’ with New York Philharmonic in the 27th International Izmir Festival it will organize between the dates May 2 -July 16,2013.
The New York Philharmonic which is the oldest orchestra of the USA will start its 2013 Europe/Spring Tour from Izmir it will come for the first time with Izmir Festival Exclusive Concert.
The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, in its Izmir concert will accompany Emanuel Ax who is recognized as one of the best pianists ever of the world under the baton of Music Director Alan Gilbert who is one of the most creative conductors of our era. In the concert that will be made on May 2, 2013 Thursday at 8.30 pm in Ahmed Adnan Saygun Arts Center, Ax will perform one of its worldwide acclaimed Mozart interpretations, his piano concerto no.25. In the second part, the Orchestra will play Bruckner’s Symphony No.3 he dedicated to Wagner.
For the tour consisting of 13 concerts in four countries between the dates May 2-17, 2013, Matthew Van Besien, the Executive Director of the New York Philharmonic says ’’revisiting the familiar musical capitals like Berlin and Zurich, making our historic Izmir debut and returning to Turkey gives excitement to us’’ .
The 27th International Izmir Festival organized with the support of the Board of Introduction Fund of the Prime Ministry, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Izmir Governorship, Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, Izmir Development Agency and Konak Municipality, main sponsorship of Eczacıbaşı Group, program sponsorship of Borsa Istanbul, the collaborations of Goethe Institut Izmir, the Consulate General of Poland in Istanbul, Adam Mickiewicz Institute and the Honorary Consulate of Poland in Izmir, will again host the bests of the world.
After the Festival Exclusive Concert on May 2, Izmir State Opera and Ballet which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year will make the Festival Opening Concert on June 6, Thursday at 9.30 pm. in the extraordinary atmosphere of Ephesus Antique Theater. Estimable soloists, orchestra and chorus of IZDOB will present a distinguished programme in the Gala Concert organized this year for Verdi and Wagner whose 200th Anniversary of birth is celebrated worldwide.
IKSEV is adding the Pergamon Red Basilica (Red Hall-Red Courtyard) to the historical festival venues this year. The newly restored Southern Tower (Rotunda) of the Basilica founded in the name of the Egyptian god Serapis in the most magnificent period of Pergamon, the city of the firsts in the antique world and defined as the Hagia Sophia of the Western Anatolia will be the stage for an extraordinary concert. One of the major chamber music ensembles of the world, The Quartet that carries the name of the Spanish Philosopher Pablo Minguet whose doctrine they share will perform Haydn and Mahler’s chamber music works that require mastery on June 14, Friday at 9.30 pm. in the Southern Tower of the Basilica with the contributions of Goethe Institut Izmir.
