Turkish Airlines, Boeing and Istanbul Technical University (ITU) launch a new academic program in Air Transport Management.

thy-boeing-ituTurkish Airlines, Boeing and Istanbul Technical University (ITU), Turkey’s leading aerospace engineering and technology institution, today announced a new academic program designed to equip Turkish Airlines’ executives of tomorrow with the necessary skills to lead the country’s rapidly developing aerospace industry, in a ceremony held in the Macka Campus of Istanbul Technical University (ITU).

The new M.Sc. in Air Transport Management, the first of its kind in the region, is initially being offered to 35 executives at Turkish Airlines and will be hosted by ITU at its newly created Aviation Institute. The two-year course also has academic partnerships with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cranfield University in the United Kingdom and the University of British Columbia.

“As Turkish Airlines, we are proud to contribute to furthering international integration by building bridges between continents and by also providing outstanding contributions towards developing cultural, commercial and economic relations. We have made significant progress in the investment plan that we have pursued in the past 10 years. We have seen constant growth in the number of destinations, fleet and passengers; all while also achieving profitability. As Turkish Airlines, our goal was to capture a share of the traffic passing over us and we developed appropriate strategies for this aim. To continue to build on our success, I believe that this new program, which will improve the efficiency of our executives’ skills, will add significantly to their capabilities, as we continue to implement our long-term goals.” said Dr. Temel Kotil, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Turkish Airlines.

Dr. Fariba Alamdari, Boeing Commercial Airplanes vice president of market analysis and business development, who worked closely with Turkish Airline’ executives and ITU leaders, to create the Master’s program, said that, “It will help prepare Turkish Airlines’ next generation of leaders for the airline’s long-term success. The airline industry today is very competitive, and executives face constant decisions about operations, efficiency and the best ways to meet ever-changing customer expectations.”

“Boeing is once again partnering with Istanbul Technical University and Turkish Airlines to ensure that Turkey’s aviation industry continues to flourish and thrive” said Bernard J. Dunn, president of Boeing Turkey and North Africa. “The new program in Air Transport Management is about combining Boeing’s industrial expertise with ITU’s academic rigor to deliver a course which will provide Turkey’s future aerospace leaders with a sound footing in this dynamic sector.”

“We are very excited about the Aviation Institute and the Air Transport Management program, and within the next few years we expect it to grow and develop into a world-renowned program,” said Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Özkol, vice rector of ITU.

Graduation projects will focus on solving real-life issues facing airline managers. The course will cover the fundamentals of airline management, aviation economics, air law and compliance management, while students will chose elective modules on topics such as airport planning and airline maintenance.
