Schools in the country celebrated the Republic Day with readings, displays, songs and other presentations. Government schools and offices are closed on this day as the entire country celebrates the occasion in grand style. Ankara, the capital city, hosted many of the official events of celebration which include ceremonies at the Anıtkabir, Atatürks Mausoleum. A grand parade took place at Istanbul’s Bağdat Street in the evening. A spectacular firework display has been organised at the Bosphorus in Istanbul. The show took place in the area between the Bosphorus Bridge and the Maiden Tower on the sea. Thousands of fireworks lit up the sky over the Bosporus. Istanbulities and tourists packed the two shores of the Bosporus to celebrate and watch the fireworks display.
The world's first underwater rail link between two continents, connecting Asia and Europe is also opened on the Republic Day with the participation of Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Republic of Turkey celebrated its 90th foundation anniversary on October 29 as receptions were hosted in Turkish missions across the world to mark the Republic Day.
Receptions were hosted by Turkish missions in Abu Dhabi, Athens, Amman, Baku, Berlin, Paris, London, Beirut and The Hague.
