Hospitality Industry Trends in Alanya, Turkey

Coordinator of Aydoğan A.Ş.; Gülçin Güner shared her thoughts with FTNnews about hospitality industry in Alanya and in Turkey as well.

gulcin-gunerFTNnews.com: Could you please introduce your background in Tourism and Hotel industry?
I’ m involved in tourism industry since 26 years and started in Banana Hotel which was known as the head location of Alanya hospitality. Afterwards, I made the openings and management of Ananas and Obaköy Hotels. While Obaköy Hotel’s success was getting higher at least it was transferred to Taksim Hotel. So I gave up my duty there and established my own hotel management and consultancy private firm. In this sector I continued as a management partnership for 3 hotels between 1996-2004. I entered to ALTID (Alanya Hoteliers Association) as a board member in 1999 and continued my mission as a president 6 years long. Then I passed my administrative function to my colleague. As a basis of volunteerism I believe that this is the right behaviour approach in the vocational civil organization for democracy. Currently I’ve been working as a coordinator for Aydoğan A.Ş. since 2005 (Goldcity, Sentido Gold Island, Sentido Golden Bay). Additionally, I’ m doing the management of my own company and also I’m a member of POYD, Alanya Skal and TUROFED (Turkey Hoteliers Federation) council.

FTNnews.com: What is your thought about the future of Hotel industry in Turkey and Alanya, as a past President of Alanya Hotels Association?
Of course the trends/sales channels and marketing models and also customer expectations change with the time; but the variety of mentality is important in this sector. We all know that Tourism improves in the whole world and also in Turkey. So we should focus on tourism derived income and profit. Hereby government should compose, stimulate and support the tourism policy. Nowadays education and qualified personnel are the most important topics in Hotel industry.

FTNnews.com: Also new trends in hospitality sector, economical crisis in Europe and affects in Turkish tourism?
In the last 2 years in European tourism sector due to the economical throttle, package prices fell down in popular destinations like Greece and Spain. Of course in preliminary it effected the sales in Turkey negatively. However economical crisis in Europe caused social conflicts, rebliane against government. In addition to this, it caused serious service and personnel losts which occurred annulment of the reservations and so it caused the German and Scandinavian costumers to prefer Turkey predominantly. Another important point that I want to mention is that the Iranian and Israel markets are in a serious escalation in this sector.

FTNnews.com: Could you please tell us Goldcity Hotel? Why guests prefer your hotels, your important markets? What’s new in the hotels… etc?
We have been adopting a condominium system in Goldcity consisting property and hotel management. By this system property owners can use all facilities which they can find in a luxury 5 star hotel. On the other side they can lease and invest their unites. We reached the right scale in service, quality and price parity in Goldcity. With the interactive sales policy in our Hotel we want our guests to live our Hotel and make them happy during their destination time. According to our Hotel management logic we use our onset on repeat guests and variety on market. Goldcity, with its own grandeur peculiar, let the guest live the variation with min. 101 sqm family suites, aquapark with 20 slites, Cable Park which is only 5 in the whole Turkey, amazing sightview, abundantly pool choices, 3500 sqm Spa Wellness area, professional fitness room with professional training instructors (in different sections). The most important markets that we can list are Scandinavian, Russian, UK, Holland-Belgium, Germany, Turkey and also Iran.

Goldcity has 111,714 sqm sport complex including 2 UEFA standard football fields, 6 tennis courts, volleyball and basketball courts. Through our sport complex facilities, we have been cooperating sport agencies for football camps especially during the winter season. Starting from 15th of December till end of march at least 30 football teams accommodate in our Hotel. By the way MICE is also very important part of our Hotel. We have totally 3 meeting rooms in different capacities. Goldcity is pretty popular for wedding celebrations, congresses and meetings together with its professional conference hall and function room. Regarding the golf course we are awaiting a process from the tourism ministry. Furthermore the short distance from GZP (Gazipaşa) Airport to Goldcity Hotel (only 20 min.) is a great opportunity for investment and our company.

FTNnews.com: Whats is the percentage of bookings via internet for your hotels comparing to the traditional distribution channels?
As a BtoC and BtoB online sales channels we use especially dynamic packages in England market actively which sell mostly in our destination. Moreover, we have contact and agreement with almost all of the X operators (dynamic tour operators) in Germany. Finally we care on following the reservation on websites with online panels up to the end consumer. The 40% of the total reservations that we get are from the online panels and operators.
