The Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism will again occupy a prominent space this year at the World Travel Market (WTM) at stand EM1000-1050.
A huge variety of stands will display and give information on the diversity of experiences on offer in Turkey, for all sorts of visitors, in one of the world's most popular destinations.
Turkey is ranked 6th in terms of the number of tourists by the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) and in 2013 Turkey welcomed 37.8 million foreign visitors – a year on year increase of 5.9% (source: WTO). The country is one of the most popular and affordable holiday destinations for the UK with the country ranking 6th for Brits travelling to short-haul destinations (source: MINTEL). In 2013, Turkey attracted 2.51 million British visitors, an increase of 2.15% from 2.42 million Brits in 2012.
For this year's WTM the Turkish Culture and Information Office will be highlighting what’s new in travel and tourism for 2015. Focuses will include the city of Istanbul, recently named top destination in the world by Tripadvisor readers, and Turkey's MICE offerings. The International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) World Congress is being held in Antalya this year on 1-5 November, while Expo 2016 Antalya, a huge expo of agriculture and horticulture will be held in the city over six months in 2016 with 100 countries exhibiting and eight million people expected to attend. Istanbul was ranked 8th by the ICCA in its 2013 Rankings for Cities and Countries and 1st for large congresses of 300-500 guests – fittingly, the 30th AITO Overseas Conference will be held there on 27-30 November this year. Turkey will also highlight Pergamon and Bursa & Cumalikizik, recently added to UNESCO’s World Heritage List, and new tourism infrastructure developments including the skiing centre at Mount Erciyes in Kayseri, close to the well-known tourism centre of Cappadocia.
The winners of #takemetoturkey, a competition that aims to find the UK's most distinct and exceptional bloggers (including video) and instagrammers, will be announced at WTM at a networking event for bloggers and instagrammers on Wednesday 5 November at 4-6pm. The six winners will go on to travel in Turkey while blogging and instagramming to their heart's content about their trips. Turkish Culture & Information Office will commemorate the centenary in 2015 of World War I's Gallipoli at WTM through a stand displaying a selection of black and white photography from the period.
Turkey is also set to introduce a brand new online training product for agents that will aim to provide information on the variety of tourism products Turkey has on offer. The Turkish Culture & Information Office will announce the launch of this exciting scheme in due course.
