SunExpress, part of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, has announced that from July 2015 it will be flying twice a week to Izmir, the jewel in Turkey’s Aegean coast.
SunExpress will start flying from London Luton Airport (LLA), just in time for holidaymakers to get away to the popular beach resorts of the South Aegean.
As well as the historic city of Izmir, the resorts of Kuşadası, Çeşme, Alaçatı and Altınkum will now be within easy reach. Izmir is also a popular gateway for those exploring Turkey’s rich cultural heritage, with the ancient city of Ephesus close by, and Troy and Pergamon just slightly further afield. As Turkey’s third largest city, Izmir is likely to prove a popular destination with business travellers too.
SunExpress was founded in October 1989 as a joint venture, which is equally owned by Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. Its headquarters are located in Antalya, while Izmir on the Aegean coast has become the airlines main hub. In 2013 SunExpress carried some seven million passengers to over 90 destinations on both scheduled and charter flights.
SunExpress flights to Izmir from London Luton will start on 11th July and will fly twice weekly on Wednesdays and Saturdays, allowing for flexible durations. Flights start from just £77 one way including a generous 30kg (minimum) free baggage allowance and all taxes and service charges.
London Luton Airport’s Business Development Manager, Simon Harley, said: “We look forward to welcoming SunExpress to London Luton Airport and adding Izmir to our extensive list of destinations. Our strategy to increase passenger numbers is based on providing customers with choice, great value and convenience. Introducing new routes and new carriers is all part of our ambitious redevelopment programme.”
SunExpress Sales & Marketing Manager, Manuel Schürholz said: “With London as a new destination, SunExpress continues its growth path in Europe connecting important metropolitan areas with Izmir, our hub in Turkey. We are very happy to have London Luton as a new partner to continue expanding our network as a holiday carrier.”
