The most famous love story of all time, the "Romeo and Juliet" will be performed at the Haliç Congress Center in Istanbul as a part of the 6th International Istanbul Opera Festival. The performance will be staged by Mersin State Opera and directed by Kenan Korbek on 13 June 2015 at the Haliç Congress Centre.
The 6th International İstanbul Opera Festival organized by the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet starts tomorrow with one of the famous works of W.Okan Demiriş, “Yusuf & Zuleyha”. The performances will be staged on 11 – 12 June 2015 at Kadıköy Süreyya Opera House by Istanbul State Opera and Ballet.
The second work to be performed during the festival is the “Romeo and Juliet” by Charles Gounod at the Haliç Congress Centre.
“Die Entführung aus dem Serail” will be staged by the Istanbul State Opera and Ballet on 15 – 16 June 2015 at the Istanbul Archaeological Museums Garden. The opera composed by Mozart with inspiration from the rhythms of the Ottoman military band is one of the finest examples of the Turquerie current that emerged in Western Europe in the 16th century. The opera is directed by Yekta Kara.
The final performances of the festival will take place at Gala Concert on 18 June 2015. Istanbul State Opera and Ballet Orchestra conducted by renowned conductor Raoul Grüneis will accompany tenors Murat Karahan, Ünüşan Kuloğlu; soprano Catherine Foster, and mezzosoprano Michelle Breedt.
