Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality announced that Istanbul and Tbilisi (Georgia) are now sister cities. The sister city signing ceremony with Tbilisi was held in the Municipality Palace located in Saraçhane, Istanbul.
Two mayors; Mr. Kadir Topbaş and Mr. Davit Narmania as well as the responsible persons of related units and departments of both sides attended the signing ceremony.
Mr. Topbaş began his speech by expressing his satisfaction in hosting Mr. Davit Narmania, the mayor of Tbilisi. Mayor Topbaş stated that the strengthening the relations among cities was being important and wished that the sister-city agreement would lead to concrete collaborations in the future.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mayor Mr. Topbaş said, “We are just about to turn the economic cooperation protocol into the sister city protocol with the city of Tbilisi.”
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Davit Narmania, the mayor of Tbilisi, expressed his thanks to Mr. Kadir Topbaş, the mayor of Istanbul for the hospitality shown to them while visiting Mr. Kadir Topbaş at his office.
“I hope when you visit us, we would be very pleased to show you our hospitality in Tpilisi.” he said.
