Kristin-KurieKristin D. Kurie of Johns Island, SC has been appointed President of The Wilderman Group, the Charleston, SC-based hospitality management company.

Kristin has served for six years as Vice President of New Business for The Wilderman Group, where she managed the overall sales and marketing strategies as well as sales training and the pursuit of new business opportunities.  As President, she will concentrate on the day-to-day operations of the business and continue to oversee the development of new business opportunities for the company.

The announcement was made by John G. Wilderman, Founder of the company, who will continue to serve the company in an advisory and consulting role.

The Wilderman Group is a woman-owned hospitality management company that provides focused services both customized and cutting edge with a concentration in the Carolinas and the Southeast. They specialize in civic and community developments and creating effective and productive environments for meetings and conferences. They are steadfast in their commitment to environmental stewardship and are proud and active members of the US Green Building Council’s Charlotte Regional Chapter, South Carolina Chapter, Georgia Chapter, and the International Association of Conference Centers.

Kristin Kurie is a 27-year veteran of the hospitality sales and marketing discipline, having served as director of sales and marketing at Doral Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center, considered one of the nation’s premier conference centers. Her experience covers a wide range in the hospitality and meetings industries and she brings a national reputation for her expertise in conference center management and consulting. Ms. Kurie served as a director of the International Association of Conference Centers and was active on the marketing and sustainability committees. She remains involved with the association and is a frequent presenter at the IACC Annual Conference focusing on sales and marketing. She was presented the coveted Award of Excellence from IACC for her years of service to the association and to the conference center industry.

An ardent “steward of the environment” Kristin has raised awareness of green meetings in the hospitality industry and is a frequent guest speaker on “greening your meeting venue”.  She has been a contributing writer to numerous meeting publications and is a member of the US Green Buildings Council (USGBC), and was instrumental in introducing the Code of Sustainability to the International Association of Conference Centers.

Kristin feels strongly that economic revitalization is key to the development opportunities the company seeks.  They recognize that the development of a municipally owned conference center or civic center is an effective means of stimulating local business, education and environmental sustainability to a community, all of which can generate local jobs, increase in local business, bring new resources to the community, and generate public pride.  “We are about more than just hospitality” says Kristin.  “We become partners with the municipality through public/private partnerships that are seeking to improve infrastructure through innovative design and execution.”  Two such projects include Richmond Hill City Center in Richmond Hill, GA and the Gastonia Conference Center in Gastonia, NC.

Kristin is a graduate of Boston College with a bachelor of arts degree in Russian Studies.  She currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Sea Island Revitalization Committee, a member of  the Harvey Gantt Triumph Award Selection Committee, a member of Lowcountry Local First, and a proud and active Ashley Hall parent.
