Destination Marketing Association International (DMAI) has named Nancy L. Elder as its Senior Vice President for Professional Development and Meetings, effective 13 April 2011.
Elder has more than 30 years association leadership experience with emphasis on professional education development, strategic meetings management, and corporate exhibits and sponsorship.
"Elder is well respected in the industry and brings an incredible amount of experience and expertise to DMAI," Michael Gehrisch, President & CEO of DMAI said. "We could not have selected a better candidate for this position."
Prior to joining DMAI, Elder directed the meetings, education and industry relations programs at the American Society for Microbiology for 14 years, preceded by positions with the American Society for Training and Development and the American Chemical Society.
Elder has a strong background in developing strategic initiatives to drive new business and revenue and creating innovative growth opportunities for association members, including building certification and accreditation programs. Additionally, she is acknowledged by the association industry for her expertise in crisis and change management, conflict resolution, and quality analysis and control.
Elder is a member of both the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE). She served as PCMA Chairman of the Board in 2008; PCMA Program Committee Chair in 2003; and ASAE Meetings and Exposition Council Chair in 1995. In addition, she has served on multiple destination and hotel corporate advisory boards and is a frequent speaker at industry events. She is a Certified Association Executive (CAE). Elder received her undergraduate degree from the College of William and Mary and completed a graduate business management program at American University.
