Business Events Sydney welcomes two industry leaders to Board of Directors

Business Events Sydney (BESydney), Australia’s leading convention bureau, welcomes two new Directors to its Board, following its Annual General Meeting in October.

The new appointments are:

•             Gary Daly, General Manager, Sales, Luna Park

•             Kate Smith, Principal and Managing Director, WaldronSmith

Col Hughes, BESydney’s Chair, says, “Our Board is a dynamic mix of Independent, Government and Members Directors. Our stakeholders have elected Gary Daly and Kate Smith as their Members Directors.

“Each of our nine Directors brings a wealth of both industry and commercial knowledge to the table and actively contributes to the strategy and direction of the company. This is an exciting time for BESydney – just four months into the new financial year the company is winning record levels of business. We look forward to fresh ideas from our new Board members adding to our culture of innovation and our history of winning business for Sydney and New South Wales (NSW).”

Lyn Lewis-Smith, BESydney’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, comments, “In a highly competitive international environment, BESydney prides itself on delivering exceptional results for our harbour city and regions. These new appointments follow suit, as both are leading local industry leaders and we eagerly anticipate the insight, knowledge and leadership they can offer to further enhance BESydney’s success.”

“As a team, the Board and management are focused on delivering a sustainable and healthy pipeline of business for the future. This is particularly important with the plans for the new Sydney International Convention, Exhibition and Entertainment precinct due for completion in 2016.

“Our results speak for themselves, and we will continue to add to the 125 business events we’ve won that will take place between 1 November 2011 and the end of 2018. These events are worth an estimated $521 million for the NSW economy.”

Gary and Kate take on the Members Directors roles recently vacated by Bryan Holliday, Managing Director of ICMS Australasia and Paul Hutton, General Manager of Hilton Sydney and Food and Beverage Coordinator Australasia.

Col Hughes comments, “BESydney thanks the contribution, guidance and support provided by the outgoing Directors. All of our Directors give their valuable time generously, with great passion and enthusiasm for our industry.”

The BESydney Board comprises two directors nominated by the NSW Government via Destination NSW (formerly through Events NSW), three elected member representatives and four independent directors appointed by the Board.
