Chicago appoints Marc Anderson

Don Welsh, President and CEO of Choose Chicago announced the appointment of Marc Anderson to Chief Sales Officer and Senior Vice President. Anderson, 44 is a 23-year veteran of the visitor industry, and most recently served as Regional Director of Marketing, The Peninsula Hotels. He reports directly to Welsh. Choose Chicago® is the official destination marketing organization for Chicago, Illinois.

In this role, Anderson leads a 39-person team consisting of Sales & Services, Special Events and Tourism Sales. As Chief Sales Officer, a newly created position, he will leverage a comprehensive integrated sales plan to increase business and leisure visitation to Chicago. He will work with the sales team to increase short-term business bookings for 2015 and 2016. Chicago's convention sales and services team has the industry's largest hotel room night production goal of 2.4 million room nights per year. Anderson has the critical insight and experience from an international sales and marketing perspective, especially within the Chinese market, currently Chicago's largest inbound overseas market.

Anderson returns to Chicago's sales and marketing organization after having served nearly eight years with The Peninsula Hotels based out of The Peninsula Chicago. In this position, Anderson successfully led the regional sales, marketing, public relations and e-commerce initiatives for all Peninsula properties throughout the Midwest and Canada. He was particularly successful in leading the growth in Group and MICE business for all Peninsula Hotels; as well as launching social media and ecommerce efforts for the luxury hotel company. In addition, The Peninsula Chicago consistently ranks as one of the highest average daily rates (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPar) in Chicago.

Prior to his role with The Peninsula Hotels, Anderson spent four years with what was formerly known as the Chicago Convention & Tourism Bureau (now Choose Chicago) as Assistant Vice President, Sales. Among his achievements during this time was the sales and marketing strategy development for the McCormick Place West Building which opened in August 2007.

Anderson has held various sales positions at the Wyndham International, the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau and Smith, Bucklin & Associates.

He is an active member in the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), Meeting Professionals International (MPI), and the Association Forum of Chicagoland.
