Lufthansa appoints new General Manager

Lufthansa held a press meeting on Wednesday, at W Hotel in Istanbul to make the announcement of its new General Manager.

Stefan-LoecherbachStefan Löcherbach (42) is Lufthansa’s new General Manager for Turkey since August 1st.

He will not only take responsibility for the sales of Lufthansa itself but also for Swiss International Airlines and Austrian Airlines. Stefan Löcherbach follows Bea Berke (44) who will take over a new management position in Frankfurt at the headquarters.

“Stefan Löcherbach has a vast experience in managing fast growing markets therefore we are welcoming an experienced Lufthansa manager who has shown how to successfully orchestrate sales in turbulent times and fast growing markets”, said Carsten Schaeffer, Lufthansa Vice President Sales & Services South Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, during a press briefing in Istanbul today.

“Turkey is for sure a key market for Lufthansa and our Group airlines with all together thirteen flights a day. Year after year we have achieved new passenger records in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir – we are very thankful for this overwhelming team effort and the loyalty of our Turkish customers”, Schaeffer added.

stefan-carsten“This year we have seen interesting product enhancements at Lufthansa like specially prepared Turkish meals onboard our flights from Turkey. While continuing this way of additional innovations on board we will make sure to strengthen Lufthansa’s role as leading European carrier”, explained Stefan Löcherbach. “Our dedicated team with experienced colleagues focusing on sales as well as our operations experts at the airport have established long lasting relationships with travel agents, corporate managers and of course our top customers directly – we will build on this asset.”

Over the next 1,000 days Lufthansa is investing €1 million each day into its product: the retro-fit of the new First and Business Class, the installation of FlyNet (wifi-internet on board), new lounges at our hubs & international premium stations, a new catering concept on long-haul flight and unsurpassed brand-new kids initiative.

Just recently the First Class products received the 5-star award from Skytrax. On board, the Skytrax rating system singled out the superb comfort of the First Class cabin with ergonomically contoured seats, which convert into a fully flat, two-metre long bed. Lufthansa’s First Class cabin staff was also awarded for their onboard service quality. On ground, the First Class Terminal in Frankfurt was praised for its exclusive personal assistant service and the unbeatable food and spa selection.

The latest orders from Lufthansa stand at 236 airplanes from the new Bombardier Cseries to the world longest, the Boeing 747-8, and the world largest airplane, the Airbus A380. In total Lufthansa is investing more than €22 billion at list prices till 2025. Lufthansa is the first airline to operate the flag ships of both manufacturers within one fleet. New highlights to be introduced in the near future will be Lufthansa’s new Premium Economy Class on all longhaul airplanes as well as inflight entertainment solution on shorthaul flights. Flights to Turkey will be now operated by the latest generation of Airbus A320 family airplanes including fuel efficient sharklets.
