Our nature and natural values are very important for tourism.
We have to protect our nature and natural values as we do for our history and cultural venues and we should not forget that they are parts of our values for tourism.
As constructing concrete buildings on green lands and cutting trees to build hotels are wrong, not protecting extinct animals is also a wrong thing.
Local organizations as well as international organizations engage in important tasks for the protection of wildlife.
Ecological Research Society (EKAD) is one of those local organizations that aim to protect wildlife. EKAD carries out census, monitoring, surveying, and conservation studies along sea turtle nesting beaches in Turkey. EKAD’s Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Projects are still going on with the combined efforts of more than 150 volunteers in 7 different nesting sites (Fethiye, Dalyan, Patara, Belek, Göksu Deltasi, Demirtas, Dalaman, Sugözü (Yumurtalik)) with the support of BETUYAB, Ministry of Environment and Forestry, and OCKKB.
Five of 8 sea turtle species living in the world are found in the Mediterranean, whereas only 2 of these (Caretta caretta and Chelonia mydas) regularly nest in the Mediterranean.
