Social media is becoming an increasingly important part of any business’s marketing and client base development platform.
FTNnews studies top social media trends for 2013. Here is our summary for the trends this year.
- 1. Power of Image
Two websites; Pinterest and Instagram are ones of the most talked websites in 2012 both focus on image-based posts.
Pinterest, established in 2010, recently raised $200 million in a financing round by Valiant Capital Management that values the company at $2.5 billion.
On the other hand, Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010. The service rapidly gained popularity, with over 100 million registered users (and around 90 million monthly active users) as of January 2013. In its largest acquisition deal to date, On April 12, 2012, Facebook acquired Instagram for approximately $1 billion in cash and stock.
The number one website in social media; Facebook announced on March 7, 2013 a redesign for the News Feed its users see when they visit its site or use its mobile app. The News Feed shifts to a heavier focus on photos to remain competitive.
The use of image-based web interface will continue to be widening in 2013.
- 2. Social and Mobile
More people are logged into Facebook, Twitter, and other social profiles through smartphones and tablets these days than through PCs. Supporting mobile devices is no longer just an option; it’s mandatory. According to NBC News, the number of Facebook users who began accessing the site through tablets and smartphones jumped 24% from June to September of 2012--and is now well over 30 million.
In Nielsen and McKinsey’s Social Media Report, consumers were surveyed to discover how they use social networks. The survey found that consumers are increasingly looking to their smartphones and tablets to access social media. While the PC is still the most widely used device when it comes to social media consumption, the study found that time spent on mobile apps and mobile websites accounted for a 63% increase (compared to 2011) in total time spent. Additionally, 43% of users said they use smartphones to access social media, while 16% connect using a tablet.
- 3.Interaction of Twitter and TV
Twitter takes the top spot at social TV market. In June 2012, a third of active Twitter users tweeted about TV-related content, which was up from 26% at the beginning of the year. Viewers of this year’s 85th Academy Awards generated 8.9 million Oscars-related tweets. Twitter users sent 2.1 million tweets during the red carpet and 6.8 million during the awards show, according to Twitter.
Viewers are simultaneously using Twitter to share their thoughts and experiences with friends.
