Thailand protests turn into violent clashes

Thousands of anti-government protestors attempted to storm government buildings on Sunday.

bangkok-protests13Tourists have been warned to avoid all protests, political gatherings and demonstrations following yesterday’s violent clashes.

The demonstrations, which have been taking place in Bangkok for more than a week, had been largely peaceful until violence broke out on Sunday.

More than 2,500 military personnel were deployed to tackle the clashes, which became so violent that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra was forced to flee to a nearby compound.

Some of Bangkok's biggest shopping malls were closed and the government urged the capital's 10million residents to stay indoors overnight.
