Germany's third largest city, Munich, has legalised public nudity. Statewide laws controlling nude sunbathing in Bavaria expired last autumn, and Germany's third largest city has had to decide for itself whether or not to allow sun-seekers to strip off in public.
People in Munich are now officially welcome to go naked provided they restrict themselves to six designated areas across the city. While these areas' locations in parkland gives them a degree of seclusion, none of them are fenced off or hidden away. The city's huge public park The Englischer Garten has been a nudist hang-out since the 1960s.
“Whenever the sun is out, you’ll find Münchner of all ages, shapes and sizes catching some rays as nature intended. This being Germany, there’s no embarrassment whatsoever about the fact that everybody is naked - the park is named the English Garden because of the original style of the horticulture, not as an ironic way of poking fun at traditional British prudery” says nudist travel site naturisttravel.net.
