Swiss company Stadler won a tender to supply double-deck passenger units for Aeroexpress, the press service of the Russian company reports.
New trains will start to run between the city and Moscow airports in 2015. It is planned to complete the renewal of Aeroexpress fleet with new trains by the end of 2016.
Three major engineering companies - Stadler (Switzerland), Alstom (France) and Skoda (Czech Republic) competed to win the tender at its final stage. Stadler became the winner. Thus Aeroexpress will sign a contract with Stadler to supply a total of 172 rail cars: 112 under the main contract and 60 under two optional agreements.
Due to the constant growth of Aeroexpress trains’ popularity and infrastructure limitations, it is the only possible non-standard way to increase capaciousness of trains, - the general director of" Aeroexpress "Alex Krivoruchko said. - With the introduction of new double-decker train passenger capacity of Aeroexpress trains will increase by 30-40%. "
