Train-booking website Loco2.com is launching a partnership with the Italian rail operator, Italo.
The rail-booking specialist already has unrivalled coverage – Loco2.com is the only website on which travellers can book UK, Eurostar, French, German and Spanish trains in one place, as well as popular routes in other countries. The addition of Italo brings the company closer to comprehensive coverage of the European rail network.
Italo operates high-speed trains between major cities in Italy, running at a top speed of 360km/hour. Launched in 2012, Italo has become famous for its bright red “Ferrari train”, and for becoming the first rail operator in Italy to compete with the state-owned Trenitalia.
Loco2 customers can now book “ticketless” travel on all Italo trains, with a simple booking process that does not require a printer. And because Loco2 sells connecting services in the UK, as well as Eurostar and French train tickets, travel from Britain to Italy can be booked exclusively as part of one seamless transaction.
Italo services run on three major routes, calling at 13 cities, including Rome, Milan, Venice, Turin, and stretching as far south as Naples. The journey from Milan to Rome takes as little as 2 hours and 40 minutes and tickets cost from just £24 one-way when booked in advance.
The collaboration between Loco2 and Italo is indicative of a changing European rail market. The European Commission has introduced legislation during the past decade to increase competition for booking and operating trains, and these efforts are finally beginning to take effect.
