Sokha Hotels To Open Bokor Mountain Golf & Country Club

Sokha Hotels Co., Ltd has appointed Arnold Palmer Design Company in Orlando, United States of America, as the official designer and architectural consultant for the Golf & Country Club at the base of Bokor Mountain.

The agreement was signed and sealed between H.E. Neak Okhna Dr Sok Kong, the Executive Chairman of Sokimex Co., Ltd under its subsidiary company, Sokha Hotels Co., Ltd with Mr. Arnold D. Palmer, President of Arnold Palmer Design Company on 6th May 2008.

Mr. Bobby Toh, CEO of Sokha Hotels & Resorts supported in concluding the Golf Design Agreement and a keen social golfer said that the Par 72 Championship Golf Course will be one of the best in South East Asia.  He is very excited to attract organizers and sponsors of major International Championship Golf Tournament to stage their tournaments at this new course upon completion. 

The 36-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Course will be set in 45 hectares of picturesque tropical greens located near Bokor National Park.  Phase 1 of the project will commence on or before 1st June 2008 with 18-hole golf course scheduled to be ready by December 2010.  The construction of an additional 18-hole will be done in Phase 2.

Golf legend, Arnold Palmer was regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of men’s professional golf.  He has won numerous events on both the PGA Tour and Champions Tour dating back to 1955.  Nicknamed “The King,” he is one of golf’s most popular starts and it is most important trailblazer because he was the first star of the sport’s television age, which began in the 1950s.

Palmer won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998, and in 1974 was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame.  In 2000, Palmer was ranked the sixth greatest player of all time in Golf Digest magazine’s rankings.

Arnold Palmer Design Company has designed over 300 courses and clubs worldwide, connecting golfers in providing pure golf experience for players of every skill level.  The company’s philosophy is to utilize the natural environment with a light handed approach to design great golf courses in great locations for great clients.

Bokor Mountain Golf & Country Club will be designed to maintain an ecologically sound environment to bring extraordinary experience to the game.  The world class golf course facility will include a traditional Khmer style Club House overlooking the finishing 18-hole and the practice green.  

Elegant male and female locker rooms with heated plunge pools and accommodation for stay over clients who may want to catch the first flight at 6.30am before returning to Phnom Penh.  Other recreational facilities will include Pro-Shop, Tennis Courts, Swimming Pool, Members Lounge, Restaurants, Bars and Jasmine Spa for relaxation after the game.


Sokimex Co., Ltd will inject a capital investment of approximately US1 billion and the project to develop Bokor Mountain is expected to be fully competed within the next 15 years.  The investment will see through the completion of the following:-

1. Road rehabilitation and expansion from the base of the mountain to the peak of Bokor Mountain

2. Road rehabilitation and road system construction on the peak of Bokor mountain

3. Drainage channel construction

4. Water supply station construction

5. Restoration of the existing dilapidated hotels, casino and buildings; and construction of a new international standard hotel and casino

6. Construction of motels, condominiums, villas, residential housing, resorts, recreational parks, restaurants and shopping malls

7. Establishment of farms for the cultivation of vegetables, flowers and fruit trees accustomed to the weather in the area.

8. Emergency hospital construction

9. Construction of School

10. Installation of waste water treatment system for the protection of the environment and etc.

The 33 kilometers road will be expanded to 7 meter wide, bordered by a 0.5 meter foot path on both sides of the road and construction work is expected to finish within 30 months at a minimum cost of 20 million dollars.  It will be entirely closed to the public during the construction and upon completion; it will be dedicated for public use without charge.

The major development project of Bokor will be a pride to Cambodians in introducing a new destination to the tourism industry.  

Future expansion plan of Sokha Hotels Co., Ltd includes 2 world class hotels; one in Ochheuteal Beach in Sihanouk Ville with 1000 rooms and another at Chrouy Changva district in Phnom Penh with 650 rooms.
