For the fourth year in a row, the Grand Hotel Principe Di Piemonte’s “Il Piccolo Principe” restaurant received the second Michelin Star. Just forty-one restaurants in Italy (and just four in Tuscany) may boast such a prestigious award.
Open from April to October, only for dinner and also addressed to non-residents in the hotel, this restaurant offers the magnificent experience of a dinner on the roof top floor, either in the veranda or poolside, and it is always available for corporate events, even in the closing periods.
The confirmation of the second star, which follows the first one obtained in November 2008, was achieved ten days ago, to coincide with the release of the 2017 edition of the Michelin Guide.
The given reason is this: «As in a well-orchestrated symphony, the “Il Piccolo Principe” chef Giuseppe Mancino lets coexist in his courses creativeness, refinement, skill and excellent presentations».
To be remembered that, in addition to the double Michelin star, the Il Piccolo Principe has two Gambero Rosso forks, the prestigious entry in the Identità golose guide, which brings together all the best restaurants in the world, and as many as two Hats in the 2018 issue of the L’Espresso Guides for the best restaurants in Italy.
The Michelin inspectors operate anonymously by following a proven methodology all over the world and pay the bill at the restaurant, considering only the quality of the food according to five pre-defined criteria: product quality, taste and skills both in the preparation of the courses and in the combination of flavours, cooking revealing the chef personality, value for money and continuity over time and menus. These criteria are met by Michelin inspectors in Italy as well as in Japan, in China, in the United States or anywhere else. For this reason an equal number of stars certifies equal quality of a restaurant regardless of its location.
In particular, the double star is synonymous with cuisine that is worth a deviation, that is a tailored stop on a trip.
The Il Piccolo Principe is located in the picturesque setting of the roof top floor. It is headed by chef Giuseppe Mancino and by second chef Alessio Bachini. It is open for dinner only, from April to October, and it is also accessible to non-residents in the hotel, being thus available to the widest audience.
For groups and corporate events the chef and his kitchen are always available, even during the closing season (from November to March).
The restaurant’s cuisine is exquisitely refined, enriched and enhanced by a well-stocked wine list. Courses range from traditional cuisine of Versilia and Tuscany to its remake in a more contemporary way. All menus are made of seasonal products, thus always offering fresh products.
The setting is absolutely prestigious: the elegant and exclusive room on the fifth floor, completely refurbished, providing breathtaking views of the sea and the Apuan Alps, as well as the beautiful terrace by the pool on the roof garden.
Chef Giuseppe Mancino said, "I am really proud of this result, not much for me but rather for the staff I proudly coordinate – two Michelin stars are the result of teamwork and not of the performance of a single professional – as well as for the company that manages the hotel, far-sighted as a few today are.
