JetBlue Starts Charging fee for First Checked Bag

JetBlue started charging for the first checked piece of luggage Tuesday. Customers who booked flights before Tuesday will still be able to check a suitcase for free, but those booking last-minute summer vacations and all other trips on or after Tuesday will have to pay up to $25 for their first checked bag.

Passengers who indicate they have a more than carry-on luggage when checking in online or at a kiosk will pay $20, while those utilizing the convenience of the check-in counter will pay $25.

JetBlue offer fare options that include different numbers of checked bags.

For Blue fares, the first checked bag fee is $20 when purchased during web check-in or at a kiosk, or $25 at the check-in counter and the second checked bag is $35.

For Blue Plus fares, one checked bag is included and the second checked bag fee is $35. For Blue Flex fares, two checked bags are included.

For Blue and Blue Plus fares for flights to or from Santo Domingo, Santiago, Port-au-Prince, Port of Spain, Kingston, Cartagena, Medellin, Bogota, Lima and Mexico City: one checked bag is included and the second checked bag fee is $35.

For Mint fares: two checked bags are included.

For all fares, any additional bags are $100 each.

Mosaic customers and those on the same itinerary are allowed two (2) checked bags free of charge.

Customers who booked prior to June 30, 2015 will be allowed one (1) checked bag free of charge and may check a second bag for a $35 fee.
