The number of passengers handed by Vienna Airport climbed by 1.7% in June 2015 compared to the prior-year month to a total of 2,170,898. Local passenger volume rose by1.9% in the same period. Vienna Airport also reported a rise of 0.9% year-on-year in the number of transfer passengers in June 2015. The number of flight movements fell by 0.8%, whereas the maximum take-off weight showed a positive development, increasing by 5.0%.
In June 2015 total air cargo rose by 0.8% from the previous year.
The number of passengers flying to Western Europe rose by 0.7% in June 2015. Eastern European passenger traffic dropped by 2.3%, which is related, amongst other factors, to the crises in Russia and the Ukraine. The Middle East region showed a rise of 10.3% in June 2015, compared to a 6.6% increase in passengers travelling to the Far East. The number of passengers flying to North American destinations rose sharply by 23.2% in June 2015, whereas passenger volume to Africa was down 13.4% from June 2014 as a consequence of the conflict events in Tunisia.
The number of passengers handled by Kosice Airport rose by 15.7% to 143,493 in the period January to June 2015. The traffic results for Malta Airport for June 2015 will first be published in the coming weeks. The available figures for January to May 2015 show an increase of 6.4% to a total of 1,527,752 passengers.
