NY Police evacuated a terminal at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport on Wednesday as they investigated a report of a suspicious package.
Port Authority Police, who oversee the area's three major airports, did not immediately return calls seeking comment. NBC New York said Terminal 5 was evacuated, and photos on social media showed travelers walking outside with their bags.
The JetBlue terminal at Kennedy Airport was briefly evacuated Wednesday morning, amid heightened security in the wake of the bombing of Istanbul’s airport. A Port Authority spokesman said a suspicious package was found inside the terminal about 8:30 a.m. The terminal was evacuated — and all surrounding roads were shut down.
A dispatched NYPD Bomb Squad determined that the contents in the bag were not explosives.
The terminal was reopened about 9:30 a.m., sources said.
