Flughafen Wien Group Handles 3.1 Million Passengers in August 2016

vie plane controlFlughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport, Kosice Airport) reports 2.0% increase in passenger volume to 19 million passengers since the beginning of the year. The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of August 2016 climbed 0.2% from the previous year to 2,391,556 passengers.

The number of local passengers was up 1.4%, whereas transfer passenger volume declined by 2.4%. The number of flight movements fell by 0.4% in August 2016 compared to the prior-year month. Cargo volume remained unchanged.

The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to Western European destinations was up by 1.1% in contrast to the 0.5% drop in passenger traffic to Eastern Europe. The number of passengers travelling to the Far East increased by 2.2% but declined by 2.3% to destinations in the Middle East. Passenger volume to North America was down 4.9%, whereas the number of passengers flying to destinations in Africa showed a significant decrease of 21.0%.

There was a growth of 2.3% in passenger volume at Malta Airport, whereas Kosice Airport reported a drop of 2.9%.

Presentation of traffic results

Following the increase of the stake held by Flughafen Wien AG in Malta Airport at the end of March 2016, the strategic investment is fully consolidated in the interim consolidated financial statements of the Flughafen Wien Group beginning at the end of the first quarter of 2016. For this reason, the entire traffic results for Flughafen Wien AG and its foreign strategic investments have been included in the monthly reports since April 2016. The traffic results for Vienna Airport correspond to the comparable values of the monthly announcements of traffic results up to and including the month of March 2016.
