Beijing’s New Daxing Airport Completes Construction, Subway and Expressway Connections are Almost Ready

The construction of the Beijing’s new Daxing International Airport is expected to be completed by the end of this month and the airport is scheduled to open by the end of September.

The first phase of a new subway line connecting downtown Beijing to the new international airport under construction south of the city saw its first test run last weekend, indicating that preparations for the opening of Beijing Daxing International Airport in September are in full swing, according to local officials. The subway link that will connect the new airport with Caoqiao subway station in Fengtai district, spans 41.4 kilometers and passes through three subway stations in the capital. The train can reach speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour. Automated subway trains will be used on the new airport line. When the subway goes into operation, the 41-km journey will only take 19 minutes.

The construction of the surrounding infrastructure is also nearing completion. A new expressway linking the airport to the capital’s south Fifth Ring Road is expected to open by the end of this month.

The Civil Aviation Administration of China announced that Beijing Daxing International Airport will enter commercial operation before September 30, 2019.

Beijing Daxing International Airport is set to handle up to 45 million passengers annually by 2021, with the figure expected to rise to 72 million passengers by 2025.
