Tallinn Airport breaks passenger record in July 2019

Tallinn Airport Corendon

In July, more than 319,000 passengers were served at Tallinn Airport, which signifies a growth of more than 2.2% in comparison to the same period, last year. Also, this is the record-breaking highest number of passengers served within a month.

According to Eero Pärgmäe, the Commercial Director of Tallinn airport, the results met the expectations, since several business lines to e.g. Copenhagen and Milan were temporarily halted. The average seat-occupancy rate on regular flights reached a record-breaking 81%. “Despite the relatively warm summer weather in Estonia, the travelers’ demand for summertime leisure trips has remained very strong, and the average seat-occupancy of planes has risen to record-high levels. Over the summer, airBaltic has significantly increased its market share and managed to grow it by 7% in comparison to the start of the year,” Pärgmäe commented.

The largest carrier – airBaltic – served 24% of the passengers in July, Nordica 15% and Ryanair 10%. Of all of the passengers, 20% chose to travel with low-cost airlines. In July, direct flights ware available on 36 regular lines, as well as 25 additional charter flight destinations. A large part of the regular traffic is divided between main travel hubs, like Helsinki, Riga, Frankfurt, and Stockholm. In August, regular flights shall resume also on the business lines, which were halted due to regular maintenance in July. In the case of charter flights, Turkish, Bulgarian and Greek resorts were the most popular by a high margin.

Summertime passenger number records test the capacity of the Airport’s terminal, but a high level of service is maintained by our professional team members who remain caring and professional also during periods of high-traffic and in difficult conditions. “To avoid delays and a stressful start to travels, each passenger can contribute by arriving at the airport sufficiently early to check-in their luggage and pass through the security inspection,” Pärgmäe added.

In July, the number of passengers also broke a record at Tartu Airport, which served 2,257 passengers, which shows an increase of 429 passengers in comparison to the same period, last year.
