Turkish Airlines resumes Istanbul - Lusaka flights

Turkish Airlines

After suspending flights due to the coronavirus pandemic, national flag carrier Turkish Airlines resumed flying to Lusaka, the capital and biggest city of Zambia.

"Istanbul-Lusaka flights were restarted to be operated twice per week with Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam connection on March 26," Turkish Airlines said in a statement on Monday.

Türkiye's Ambassador to Zambia Istem Circiroglu earlier said that the resumption of the Istanbul-Lusaka route will connect the two cities to each other and the rest of the world.

"This is a positive development for both Türkiye and Zambia as the direct flights between Istanbul and Lusaka will facilitate business trips, travel and tourism. Turkish Airlines, as a world-class and five-star global airline, will enable Zambian citizens easier trips to Türkiye and better options of connections to other destinations," Circiroglu added.

"Zambians should take advantage of the direct flights to visit Türkiye and sample its rich cultural heritage and opportunities for business," said Circiroglu as she announced that the airline's director Abdulkadir Karaman was due for a visit to Lusaka.

Lusaka, the capital and largest city in Zambia, can be a confusing and chaotic place for visitors not familiar with its unplanned neighborhoods and streets. Busy stores and shopping centers line Cairo Road and the surrounding area. Nearby covered markets sell anything from souvenir figurines to spare engine parts. Just south of Lusaka is the Munda Wanga Environmental Park, which features botanic gardens, a wildlife park and sanctuary, picnic areas, swimming pools, and a relaxing terrace bar, describes Lusaka by TripAdvisor.

Passengers will able to make round trips to Lusaka with fares starting from $841, including taxes and fees.

Turkish Airlines currently has 410 aircraft and flies to 342 destinations -- 289 international and 53 domestic.
