12.0% Rise in Passenger Volume for the Flughafen Wien Group

Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) announced continued strong growth in August 2019. The total number of passengers handled by the Group rose by 12.0% to 4.1 million travelers. The accumulated passenger volume in the period January to August 2019 was up 17.6% to 26.3 million.

BA Pilots go on strike

British Airways flights canceled due to pilots strike

British Airways pilots have begun a two-day strike over pay. A day of strike action will cost BA around £40m. The British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) earlier has given notice to British Airways that it will call on its members to strike on 9th, 10th, and 27th September 2019. Three days will cost in the region of £120m.

American Airlines retired the last of its McDonnell Douglas MD-80 fleet

American Airlines retired the last of its McDonnell Douglas MD-80 fleet yesterday as most of the remaining 26 aircraft take their final flights to Roswell, New Mexico (ROW). The MD-80, also known as the Super 80, was the workhorse of the airline’s fleet throughout the 1980s and beyond.

American Airlines announced that they are closely monitoring the track of Hurricane Dorian and resumed service at Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and Nassau, Bahamas, but airport operations remain suspended at several airports in the Bahamas, Florida, and South Carolina.

SAS connects Los Angeles with Copenhagen

SAS is opening a year-round route connecting Los Angeles with Copenhagen. The first flight will be on January 2020. Scandinavian travelers will travel to Los Angeles from Copenhagen instead of Stockholm.

TAP departs from Munich

TAP Air Portugal now flying from Munich to Porto

Effective immediately, the Portuguese airline TAP is offering a daily flight from the Bavarian capital to the northern Portuguese metropolis of Porto, departing from Munich at 3:55 pm and landing in Porto at 5:45 pm.

Hurricane Dorian 2019

Orlando International Airport ceases commercial operations on September 3 due to Hurricane Dorian

The National Weather Service has placed the Central Florida region under a Tropical Storm Warning which means Orlando International Airport could see sustained tropical storm winds of between 40-45 miles per hour which prevent the safe operation of automated people mover systems and places first responders in harm’s way when responding to emergency situations.
