Tokyo’s Sezanne named The Best Restaurant in Asia

Sézanne in Tokyo was named The Best Restaurant in Asia at the awards ceremony for Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2024 held in Seoul, South Korea on 26 March, 2024.

Created from the votes of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy from more than 300 experts made up of food writers and critics, chefs, restaurateurs and regional culinary leaders, this year’s list includes restaurants from 19 cities across the region and eight new entries.

  9. La Cime, Osaka
  10. Odette, Singapore – Best Restaurant in Singapore

Here are some highlights:

  • Tokyo’s Sézanne climbs to the top spot to be awarded The Best Restaurant in Asia. Sézanne’s was ranked number two last year, debuting on the list in 2022 at the number 17 spot.
  • Singapore leads the rankings with nine entries, and welcomes newcomers Seroja (No.31), also the winner of the Highest New Entry Award 2024, and Lolla (No.43)
  • Moving up an impressive 32 spots is Wing (No.5) in Hong Kong, which takes the Highest Climber Award
  • Nusara (No.6) is this year’s Gin Mare Art of Hospitality Award recipient while fellow Bangkok spot Haoma (No.90) wins the Sustainable Restaurant Award
  • Mineko Kato from Tokyo’s Faro earns the coveted title of Asia’s Best Pastry Chef
  • Kevin Lu of Logy (No.22) in Taipei is the winner of the Beronia Asia’s Best Sommelier Award
  • Sung Anh of Mosu (No.41) in Seoul takes home the peer-voted Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice Award

Number 1: Sézanne

Sezanne Tokyo best restaurant in Asia

Situated on the seventh floor of Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Marunouchi, the Sézanne draws inspiration from the medieval town in France’s Champagne region. Helmed by English chef Daniel Calvert, Sézanne offers neo-French cuisine that showcases modern classics with expert precision, incorporating high-quality Japanese ingredients.Calvert’s culinary style also highlights the best of his experience across Asia, with highly refined and beautifully delivered dishes making up the seasonal tasting menu.. The level of service matches the elevated cooking, with a superb wine list available and exceptional hospitality on display.

Number 2: Florilège

Florilège

At Florilège, chef Hiroyasu Kawate serves his creative tasting menus of contemporary French-accented cuisine in a spacious, theatrical setting. The plush counter seating running three sides of the expansive open kitchen allows guests to watch their dishes being prepared.  Kawate opened Florilège in 2009, won two Michelin stars in 2018 and five years later, was voted by his peers as the recipient of the Inedit Damm Chefs’ Choice Award 2023. In the same year, the restaurant was relocated to the ultra-modern Azabudai Hills, the tallest building in Tokyo.

Number 3: Gaggan Anand

Gaggan Anand is on a mission to push the boundaries of the fine dining experience, seeking instead to create “a culinary adventure of the senses and a roller coaster ride of emotions”. The same irreverent philosophy shines through the restaurant’s digital channels, the chef’s own hilarious sense of humour and the out-of-the-box presentation of the dishes. Music, colours and creativity combine throughout the menu, which is anchored in progressive Indian cuisine with a fine dining twist.
