bali ferry fire

Tourists hurt in Bali ferry explosion

At least 25 tourists have been injured after a ferry’s engines exploded. A fire broke out aboard the ferry en route to the Indonesian tourist resort of Bali. The ferry had left the Gili Islands en route to Bali when the incident occurred, sending thick black smoke and flame pouring through the vessel.

One Australian passenger, Jason Dyke, said he and his girlfriend, Lauren Prosser, were sunbaking on the roof when they heard the explosion. There were 129 passengers on board the ferry at the time and Mr Dyke said he feared the ferry would sink due to the damage.

The vessel’s sister ship came alongside and the injured passengers were transferred across on surfboards.
