Rosewood unveils two new luxury hotel openings in China

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts® has announced two new addresses in China, Rosewood Shenzhen and Rosewood Shanghai.

The company has been appointed by China Resources Land Limited to manage Rosewood Shenzhen, set to open in 2022. Owned by Hopson Commercial Property Management Company, Rosewood Shanghai will open in 2024.

Rosewood Shenzhen will be conveniently situated on bustling Shannan Boulevard, at the intersection of Nanshan, Futian and Baoan Districts. Its central location will provide easy access to key commercial areas, a large-scale sports and entertainment venue and Shenzen’s growing number of contemporary cultural institutions. The property will cater to business travelers drawn to China’s first Special Economic Zone and technology hub, strategically located on the Pearl River Delta, while also appealing to “affluential explorers” eager to see for themselves this city of burgeoning artistic, architectural and culinary trends.

Named UNESCO Creative City of Design, Shenzhen is establishing itself as China’s creative hub with high-profile design events and new creative destinations such as OCT Loft, and the neo-futuristic Museum of Contemporary Art, all of which will be easily accessible from Rosewood Shenzhen.

Fosters + Partners have been appointed architects of the 300-room hotel, which will also feature 50 Rosewood Residences. Rosewood’s signature residential-style accommodations will showcase views over the serene greenery of the Noble Merchant Golf club and the dynamic cityscape of Shenzhen. The property will be part of a new mixed-use development of office, retail, hotel and serviced apartments.

Furthering Rosewood’s reputation for innovative culinary offerings, the hotel will feature four distinct restaurants and bars. To serve the growing social and corporate needs of the city, the hotel will showcase 1,250 square meters of beautifully designed meeting and event facilities, including a 750-square-meter Main Ballroom. Leisure facilities will include Sense, A Rosewood Spa, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and a state-of-the-art fitness center.

“The opening of Rosewood Shenzhen will not only be a key moment in our strategic growth in China and across Asia Pacific, it will represent a highly differentiated ultra-luxury experience for Shenzhen’s residents and visitors,” says Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “We are very grateful to CR Land for giving us the opportunity to bring our brand to Shenzhen and create a new icon in one of China’s fastest growing cities.”

Rosewood Shanghai will feature dramatic views from the top floors of a new skyscraper in the centrally located Suhe Creek area.  In one of the most exciting and dynamic neighborhoods of Shanghai, the hotel’s central location will provide stunning views of Shanghai’s Huangpu River and iconic skyline, and easy access to the famous Bund promenade, Nanjing Road commercial area, People’s Square, Jing’an Temple and the Shanghai Exhibition Center.

Rosewood Shanghai will play a key role in the revitalization of an area that is home to beautifully preserved and restored historic buildings dating from the city’s Art Deco design period combined with strikingly contemporary architecture – mirroring the evolution of Shanghai itself, a blend of exotic history and cutting-edge modernity. Home to the city’s dynamic local art scene with galleries and studios, the area has also witnessed the arrival of exciting new retail and dining concepts.  The hotel will be a centerpiece of the Hopson One Suhewan development that will include grade-A offices, residences, upscale shopping center, educational institutions and galleries, located in the Jing’an commercial, retail and entertainment district.

Kohn Pedersen Fox architects have been appointed designers of the 220-room hotel which will also include 83 luxury Rosewood Residences; all accommodations will showcase spectacular views of Shanghai’s skyline.  The Manor Club, Rosewood’s hallmark luxury executive lounge, will be featured at Rosewood Shanghai, offering a wide range of exclusive privileges to guests.

In keeping with Rosewood’s reputation for forward-thinking culinary creativity, the property will be positioned as a dining and entertainment magnet with four innovative, standalone venues including a café, a bistro, a Chinese restaurant, and a rooftop restaurant and bar destined to become a glittering gathering place for sophisticated Shanghainese and international guests.

The hotel will also be home to Asaya, Rosewood’s pioneering, holistic wellness concept, following its first urban debut at Rosewood Hong Kong, and the original Asaya at Rosewood Phuket.  The openings of Asaya in gateway cities, in addition to resorts, responds to the rapidly accelerating demand for a personalized and holistic approach to wellness, going beyond beauty and body treatments to encompass an entire lifestyle — a growing global trend which is burgeoning within China as well.  Rosewood Shanghai’s Asaya will be supported by extensive facilities, including a well-equipped fitness center, indoor swimming pool and more.  Family travelers will also be able to take advantage of the innovative Rosewood Explorers program for younger guests.

Rosewood Shanghai will offer a spacious and varied total of 1,390 square meters of function and meeting space to include the 450-square-meter Pavilion, the brand’s signature, residentially styled meeting and event space; a 600-square-meter ballroom; meeting rooms; event studios and a bridal suite.

“Shanghai has long been a top priority to plant the Rosewood flag -– Rosewood Shanghai represents a critical milestone in our strategy to establish the brand across China’s major urban gateways and resort destinations,” says Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “Shanghai’s unique history, culture and energy provide a rich source of inspiration for us to translate our A Sense of Place guiding philosophy in this location.  We are grateful for Hopson’s faith in us -– together, we will create a unique hotel and destination for the Shanghainese and visitors from around China and the world.”

“We are delighted to be bringing the iconic Rosewood brand to Shanghai,” said Kevin Zhang, a spokesperson for Hopson Commercial Property Management Company. “We have a vision to create a destination within Shanghai that is designed to provide a true Sense of Place for sophisticated travelers and locals alike, and Rosewood’s sensibility is a perfect fit with our vision.  We believe this hotel will become an icon in Shanghai”
