Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts features a new collaboration for the posters of this year’s Istanbul Festivals.
Artworks and handwritings of leading artists from different fields are brought together on the posters of 2013 Istanbul Festivals by graphic designer and İKSV Corporate Identity Advisor Bülent Erkmen.
The poster of the 41st Istanbul Music Festival is designed collaboratively by the prominent contemporary artist Sarkis and Bülent Erkmen. The handwriting and fingerprint of Sarkis is transformed into a festival poster by the designs of İKSV Corporate Identity Advisor Bülent Erkmen.
The poster of the 32nd Istanbul Film Festival features a photograph shot by the leading director of contemporary “auteur” cinema, screenwriter and photography artist Nuri Bilge Ceylan.
Bülent Erkmen, who chose the photograph titled “Sleepless Night” (Uykusuz Gece) from Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s “For My Father” (Babam İçin) series, commented: “Cinema is what is seen by an open eye blinded in a sleepless night. Dreamy assurance of a blanket wrapped around our body and pulled over our head sunk in a pillow in the darkness of the night is reciprocated by the moment of sinking in our chair in the darkness of the movie theatre”. Also using Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s handwriting on the festival poster, Erkmen says: “With an inverse relationship between Turkish and English, the title, written in Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s own handwriting, accompanies the open eye in a sleepless night like a film strip”.The poster of the 20th Istanbul Jazz Festival, designed by Bülent Erkmen in collaboration with another artist, will be announced at a press meeting in the upcoming weeks.
